Our team is facing the most difficult task of the season from 6 pm on Thursday. Our opponent will be the Kursk team which has the most sought-after female basketball player of our time.
The Russian club had a very strong roster last year as well, and they gave us a taste of that, since they beat us by 14 points at home, and by 20 on the road. However, they managed to to that this summer. Their biggest signing was undoubtedly Breanna Stewart about whom we already told you in our previous article. The American player who keeps breaking records has reached the top this year. Besides the World Cup title and the WNBA championship she was also given both MVP awards. It is no wonder that her appearances on the court are met with great interest all over the world.
Candice Parker would have been the other shining star on the roster, but she decided that she wanted to rest, and try herself in new areas (she was asked to be an NBA commentator). That would have caused major trouble in many teams, but Kursk's budget made it possible to sign a different star of the same caliber. Two-time Olympic champion and three-time World champion Tina Charles is one of the best rebounders in the WNBA. What's more in 2016 she was also the best scorer of the American league.
Kursk's roster doesn't lack European star power either! Maybe the first to mention should be 29-year-old Sonja Petrovic. The Serbian European champion and Olympic bronze medallist player came to the Euroleague as a comet, and became one of the most popular faces immediately. She has got three Euroleague titles today. The two Spanish perimeter players, experienced point guard Anna Cruz, and all-round player Marta Xargay are also world class basketball players. The latter was lured away from Prague, causing a major upset to the Czech roster. There is another American on their roster, Epiphanny Prince, who also has a Russian passport. She is talented, but in this Kursk team with these players alongside her, she won't be the go-to player.
The Russian part of team is also worth mentioning. The quartet of Vidmer, Zhedik, KIrillova and Anoikina would be welcome in any other team of the continent. They are doing their best job and trying to spend their time on court efficiently.
The head of the team is respected Spanish coach Lucas Mondelo, who has always been able to build a strong team out of the players at hand. For their historic season of 2017 experts are still taking their hats off. They conquered Europe without suffering a single loss. Their record is still unbeaten this year as well, although they had to put up a big fight against Fenerbahce and Riga, but their start have made sure that they came out on top at the end.
Our team is going into this clash with the positive vibe of two games won, and we can be sure that our head coach, Roberto Iniguez is also preparing something unexpected to surprise the stars.
It will be a huge game! Because of the increased interest towards the game we ask everybody to arrive to Novomatic Aréna on time. Tickets can be purchased at the venue for 1500 HUF. Entry to the game is free of charge below the age of 14 and above 70!

Our head coach Roberto Iniguez spent two wonderful years with us, who has visited our Managing Director Zoltán Török as promised with whom they agreed in a discussion about the future that he will come back to Sopron one day
Csodálatos két évet töltött nálunk vezetőedzőnk, Roberto Iniguez, aki ígéretéhez híven a hétvége során meglátogatta ügyvezetőnket, Török Zoltánt, akivel a jövőt is érintő beszélgetés során abban maradtak, hogy egy napon még visszatér Sopronba
We built on our strong start in the third game of the Hungarian league finals and ended the season on an unbeaten record as champions!
