From 6 pm on Sunday we are closing this week with the 63rd Sopron-Szekszárd league game in which we can't have any goal other than keeping our unbeaten streak alive.
Our rivals currently occupy the third place on the league table with a 4-1 record. They have collected their wins very confidently, while they have suffered their only defeat away from home against DVTK after a great battle. They are following a flawless pattern in EuroCup, last time out they celebrated a victory playing guests to Germand side Herner TC.
From the names that are well-known in the club the trio of Hungarian national team member Ágnes Studer, WNBA player Erica McCall and Ivana Dojkic, the prospect of Croatian basketball is delivering a solid performance game by game. The latter has even raised the quality of her game and her consistency. Summer signing Marie Ruzickova has fit in the new system quite quickly. The Slovakian player isn't unknown for us either. Back when she was really young she played for us for a while as a part of the agreement with Zala Volán. They have lost the American player Marshall due to an injury, her place was taken by her fellow American Daniel Cherise Michelle, with whom they were not going for the unknown, because she has played for her a few years back. It is obvious, that they are hurt by the absence of Lívia Gereben - to whom we hereby wish all the best- but we can still be sure that they will be there in crunchtime of the championship.
Our team is getting in better and better form by the passing of every single day. Our defense is already Euroleague level, which helps us through weaker periods in offense in almost every game. Montpellier, Győr and Fenerbahce have all struggled to play against our defense. Since Szekszárd is also building on that, it is most likely that it will characterize the game on Sunday. We are counting on our enthusiastic fans as well, who, equipped with the free clappers, have created a fantastic atmosphere against the Turkish, helping the girls through critical moments.
We have asked Virág Weninger about her expectations before the game.
Tickets can be purchased at the venue for 1200 HUF. Entry to the game is free of charge below the age of 14 and above 70!
