We got the early lead thanks to a bucket by Gabby Williams, who then added a triple to her tally. Our newly acquired player was unstoppable early on, and when she made another basket it forced Győr to call their first time-out in the game after only two minutes (2nd minute 7-0). Jeca also made a basket after the short break, and then Győr managed to score their first points by Kiesel. After that Jeca got her second foul called on her, she was replaced by Dalma. Győr cut into their deficit with a three-point play by Kiesel, what’s more, with a triple by Kadri-Ann Lass they tied the game up forcing Dávid Gáspár to call his first time-out (7th minute 11-11). With a successful free throw by Dalma we regained the lead, and with a lay-up by Megan we made it even bigger. We closed the first period with a 15-3 run getting into a double-digit advantage (10th minute 26-14).
Both sides started the second quarter missing their opportunities, and we had to wait almost three minutes for the first points, which were scored by Tina off an assist by Jeca, while at the other end Török made a lay-up (13th minute 28-16). After that we kicked it up a notch and with free throws by Jeca the difference was approaching the twenty-point mark (16th minute 37-19). After that Győr took over control and cut into their deficit with an 8-3 run, causing head coach Dávid Gáspár to call his team to the bench (19th minute 40-27). After the short break Megan answered back to Dombai’s two free throws from behind the arc, and the half was closed by another bucket coming from the young gun from Győr (20th minute 43-32).
The second half began with a lay-up by Tina, and then Török scored a triple. The teams were neck and neck in the first few minutes, neither side was able to take control (24th minute 49-39). After that we got into a bit of an advantage, which made Dalma Iványi call her next time-out (27th minute 55-42).
Zsófi got the fourth quarter going with a lay-up after penetration, and when Sára made a basket the difference reached the twenty-point mark. After that our team captain hit one from outside to force Győr’s next time-out (33rd minute 66-43). The game went on with a three-point play by Tina, who then came up with a great block at the other end. She was unstoppable in this period, ad with yet another basket coming from her we got to a thirty-point advantage, and when Jeca hit a three, Győr called their next time-out (76-43). Keita made a lay-up after an exchange of baskets between Barnai and Betti, then, after a triple by Török, Dávid Gáspár called a time-out (78-50). Megan came up with a three-point play after the short break, to which Betti added a double to set the final score in the game (40th minute 83-50).
Dávid Gáspár (head coach): I am very happy that we were able to make steps forward compared to the last game in concentration and organization. I am also glad that we were able to hold Győr to 18 points in the second half, which is a well organized, and well-prepared team. So it is an especially great joy that we were able to forge this difference after the break. We'll keep working, because we still have a lot of things to do. New players have arrived this week, and our point guard will join us next week. We have a lot to do, we have to focus on the next game which we will play against Szekszárd. I hope that our fans will support us the same way, because it will be an important game. Congratulations to Győr, and I wish them the best of luck to reach their goals.
Dalma Iványi (head coach): Congratulations to Sopron! We knew that we would play against a great team. We tried to keep up with them based on our aggressive defense for as long as possible. We couldn't do it in the second half, and it makes me a bit angry, that we gave up so easily. We fell apart, and let Sopron dominate. In games like this we still have to believe that we have to build up from defense, and not just rely on our offense. We'll work on it, and I hope that we will improve on that!
Tina Krajisnik: The first half brought a tight contest. We used the paint well, and after good efforts on defense, the fast break plays. It was a good game, congratulations to our opponents, too!
Brianna Kiesel: Sopron is a very good team, we kept up with them in the first half. They attacked very well after the break, and used the paint well. We can rely on our first half performance.
