Hayes opened the game with a double, to which Zsófi answered back with a three-point play. However, DVTK got off to a better start, three minutes into the game they had twice as many points as we did (3rd minute 6-3). After that we took control, and turned it our way with a 10-0 run forcing Attila Földi to call his first time-out in the final (7th minute 6-13). Medgyessy snapped our scoring streak with a triple after the short pause, to which Pusztai added a lay-up a bit later cutting our lead down to just two points. What’s more, Kányási managed to drain a three afterward, taking the lead again, which made Dávid Gáspár call his team to the bench to talk things over (14-13). Zsófi hit one of her signature mid-range doubles after the brief pause, to which Megan and Jeca both added one triple each before the end of the period (10th minute 14-21).
Tina made a lay-up to begin the second quarter, and then Briann struck twice from outside – time-out DVTK (12th minute 14-29). After that Miskolc were able to put their first points on the board in the period by Pusztai. Then Tina went in for a lay-up, to which Hayes answered back with a triple right away at the other end. Gabby and Alíz combined for five points in the next few possessions. We kept delivering on offense, while limiting DVTK at the other end, which resulted in a huge difference at the half-time break (20th minute 21-46).
Mokango buried a triple to start off the second half, to which Tina answered back with two successful free throws. Then Gabby made a lay-up, while Jeca put two more on the board from behind the foul line (23rd minute 24-52). Mokango struck one more time from behind the arc launching a 9-2 scoring run for Miskolc, which forced Dávid Gáspár to call his next time-out (33-54). DVTK pulled it together for the third quarter, the teams were neck and neck in that period, and our opponents were even able to cut into their deficit a little (30th minute 41-64).
Hayes opened the final stage of the game with a double. Then came a short scoring drought, which came to an end with Zsófi splitting a pair of foul shots, and then Hayes added another double to her tally (34th minute 45-65). Jeca and Zsófi both scored for two, while Betti came up with a three-point play. Head coach Dávid Gáspár decided to give everyone some time to play, and sent a complete Hungarian line-up on the court for the last four minutes of the final, who gave their best and drove it home for our tenth gold medal in the Hungarian Cup (40th minute 56-79)!
